Stephan Maus is a user on soc.ialis.me. You can follow them or interact with them if you have an account anywhere in the fediverse. If you don't, you can sign up here.

I've explored the #fediverse for a week. Now, I know what I need: I want to be allowed to follow EVERYBODY. That's freedom.

That's why I've changed instance. I've migrated from octodon.social to soc.ialis.me.

Octodon-admin @CobaltVelvet is great. Everything works fine there. But #octodon doesn't allow me f. ex. to follow folks from sealion.club

However, thx, AliceVoidstar ! Sans rancune.

soc.ialis.me doesn't block instances. Thanks @href Find me here: @stephanmaus

Octodon doesn't allow you to follow SLC people? So a domain block? What about Freezepeach? I wish people would tell me when they do domain blocks like this. Do you know what the reason is for this?

@sim @href @stephanmaus @CobaltVelvet

"Federation & Politics: It federates with nearly everything, I'll block whatever instance isn't compatible with this site's rules as needed. (sealion.club, heldscal.la, freezepeach.xyz, shitposter.club)"
You'll find that above and the reasons for it on the about-page: octodon.social/about/more

@stephanmaus

Yeah, I have decided to keep track of instances that domain block/sandbox SLC and FZP which I am the moderator for. This is so that I can be transparent for my users about who they can communicate with... I have seen some people asking why they can't do so, or replying without realising that we've been blocked. It also helps us with debugging.

@stephanmaus @sim social. heldscal.la is rarely blocked, right ? What about the admins - do they block as easily as the admins? gnusocial.de f. ex.?

@stephanmaus @stephanmaus

You know, it has been the new community entering through mastodon that has made me decide to create this list, it wasn't such an issue before this. There were a few in place. HLA used to block us, but that was because of legal issues over loli. There was another instance that we clashed with early on I think. But mostly it has been okay. I'm not aware of blocking from the other communities before we came aside from one we clashed with, but I might have missed others... @fl0wn or @hope can speak about that better than me. Of course, mastodon.social has blocked us over past clashes and claims it is over loli being allowed as far as I'm aware. But we weren't liked because gargron considered us the "altright/nazi" bad guys, basically we've become the "other". We do have people that like to shitpost, and post material others may/do find offensive. It's those guys they don't like I am guessing. Although even I've had to deal with some attitudes.

If you want to connect with SLC, then Shitposter or highland arrow might be the more neutral instances. But I've seen some of these lists target shitposter too. So you may want to have two in order to communicate across the whole federation, one for mastodon and the other for the 'bad guy' instances on GS. It's a good idea to have more than one account on different instances in case one goes down so you remain connected still.

@stephanmaus @fl0wn @hope @sim Thanks for that explanation, Sim. Very interesting. Would be cool to have a kind of history/portrait of the principal gnusocial instances.

There is this nazi/racism/sexism-thing on some instances. Hard to decide if it is pure provocation to test tolerance or real nazism/racism etc.

But this ambiguity is in fact a good exercice to sharpen your mind.

@stephanmaus @hope @fl0wn @sim @stephanmaus >There is this nazi/racism/sexism-thing on some instances.
the 'problem' is that accusations of being a "nazi" are often just an excuse used by someone to disappear opinions they disagree with - with certain mastodon instances it's done on an instance level as opposed to personal (which i guess would be acceptable).

granted, sometimes it's about controversial stuff, like migration policies or matter of nationality/minorities, but it's still a massive cop-out to just slap a sticker and block an entire server for something someone said. also note that some instances just copy a list made by some instance admin, implement it and just call it quits while proclaiming that here be the evil nazis.

i find it all pretty funny actually, then again i do think everything will solve itself one way or another.

as a sidenote, it must be a very scary world to live in if one sees nazis everywhere, heh. i'd post a smug-looking anime girl in an ss uniform with this post but you're a german so maybe they'd imprison you for seeing that. i dunno.

@stephanmaus @roka @sim @fl0wn @hope @nepfag @roka Time for good old Voltaire: "I Hate What You Post, But I Will Defend to the Death Your Right to Post It."

@stephanmaus @nepfag @hope @fl0wn @sim @stephanmaus how about good old "take it easy"? people are way too serious on the internet these days, and way more prone to pointless arguments.

i blame social media and especially real name policies for this.
@roka @nepfag @hope @fl0wn @sim @stephanmaus @stephanmaus
>real name policies
I'd probably get murdered after a while.
"Then you shouldn't say such things" these ideologues say.
They're forgetting the very values and concept of free speech.

@stephanmaus it's that philosophy that gets us branded as Nazis and such. *shrugs* @hope @nepfag @sim @roka @stephanmaus
