Slavery was less horrific it seems in the Catholic new world, but only by comparison to the barbarism and pure terror of what went on in the British new world colonies. At least, manumission seemed like a regular occurance, and the economienda system was constantly attempting to be reformed or abolished by the Spanish crown. In brazil, African slaves seem to even have kept their culture and religion (see the Malê revolt). Of course, I could be totally incorrect - I welcome suggestions on more to read on this

The ending though is a little disappointing, you become a 'good king' instead of abolishing the monarchy and the papacy entirely. But it's really the only game I've played that's really as explicitly political.

Videogames are panned, rightly so, for terrible politics most of the time. However, Ogre Battle64 is one of my favourites.

The authors really went hog wild on this, and I cannot be sure if the writers of the story were comrades themselves, or had a deep study of the history of colonialism.

Essentially you are the son of a palace guard and recent graduate of the military academy. You get sent to quell a rebellion in the mines of an oppressed nation (the bomulkins), but after seeing the horrors of workers being ground to a pulp in the mines for the wealth of the Empire and the Pope, you mutiny and join the revolutionary army. You fight for a classless society and a liberation from the Lodis Empire. You even apologize to the rebel leader for all the harm you caused. That' s way more than DSA troop guy. soc.ialis.me/media/gO_Yu2Dyil0 soc.ialis.me/media/F0izvCnXg1G soc.ialis.me/media/rISWznaPLTR

if you're a socialist, you have no business in the US army. You need to leave.

So looks like we have a DSA soldier in addition to a DSA cop

For all the s*** people give the DSA and as extremely white of an organization as it is I am kind of impressed that they were so unanimous on police abolition. As opposed to say, full employment and a 30 hour workweek. Police abolition is impossible under capitalism

I find it absurd that there are many people who consider themselves leftists, and that clearly understand or at least acknowledge media bias against new afrikan communities. But still see media reporting from major capitalist news on foreign nations as fair and accurate about places like north korea.

We're really, really close to having federated forums that work across Diaspora, OStatus, ActivityPub and Zot; which opens cross-federation with about a dozen projects in the open social metaverse. I just have to finish implementing the ActivityPub bunker buster.

"Mr. Webber, tear down this wall."

FDR's deradicalization of the CIO was one of the greatest feats of the capitalist class. The merger with the labor aristocratic AFL destroyed them.

David Nirenberg at the university of chicago has some interesting historical theories. One of which is that anti-semitism didn't exist before 1391 and the construction of the marrano/converso identity in spain. This was the first time that conversion would NOT save you from pograms. That, even if you converted, there was something sinister in your blood. Anti-semitism was new and distinct from anti-judasim/judeophobia which existed before. It's not so long after that that the hooked nose begins to make an appearance, and

So - that basically makes anti-semitism the first form of racism...?

Well at least the cop is gone now.

As a white male american, revolution isn't mine to make. It's my job to get out of the way

A DSA member tried to convince me to join today. I'm still not really convinced. I send some money to wwp. But, I also have people to take care of so I don't really have much of any free time

Hillary running again only to lose is accelerationist as f***

i was really high when watching it but Contact holds up really well. like even the philosophical stuff wasn't cringeworthy. the cgi never took me out of the moment. 9/10 would watch again.

I go back and forth on if labels on the left really matter that much. I have a good friend who identifies as a 'heterodox trotskyist' but essentially he accepts Lenin's theory of Imperialism so I'm not sure why he hangs on to the trot label at all.

Meanwhile, I have an anarcho-communist friend from HS who many times gets very close to repeating chauvinist cliches and is generally pretty silent on imperialism. I think part of the problem is that she spends a lot of time with labor aristocratic afl-cio union organizers. A shame really.

honestly, listing to black talk radio cemented my Marxism-Lenninsim. The truth of imperialized nations is far different from how they are portrayed in racist, national chauvinist media propaganda

Just 43% of America is white & Christian – study https://on.rt.com/8mfs

A lot of people think it's really difficult to define who is a Nazi, but I don't think it really is. All you need to do is look at or define it as people who want to murder or exterminate (using the Original Latin definition) people or persons just because of immutable characteristics of their birth. I don't think even the hardest communist would say to kill all settlers, no exception. Look at Che Guevara.

Politics is a lot of what stories you are told, and who you identify with.
