making my extremely good posts at extremely unfortunate hours 2017

we would all here, i think, accept that working people, as a result of their class position, carry a great revolutionary potential energy. however, like all forms of *potential* energy, it can be put to efficient, productive use (consciousness) or it can be put to an inefficient, counterproductive use (false consciousness). the effectiveness of engaging with the masses in general depends upon understanding this

i think about this a lot. obviously, when talking to other socialists or people who are active politically, the existing divisions and lines of demarcation have to be acknowledged. but when you're engaging with people with little-to-no political education, it's counterproductive to bring those divisions to a context where they aren't already there. how can one dismiss working people as reactionary while simultaneously trying to introduce them to a revolutionary consciousness?

"I try to be cordial, because that way you win people over. You cannot win them over by drawing the line of demarcation, saying you are on this side and I am on the other; that shows a lack of consciousness. After the Black Panther Party was formed, I nearly fell into this error. I could not understand why people were blind to what I saw so clearly. Then I realized that their understanding had to be developed."
Huey P. Newton, speaking as leader of the Black Panther Party

“I dissuade Party members from putting down people who do not understand. Even people who are unenlightened and seemingly bourgeois should be answered in a polite way. Things should be explained to them as fully as possible. I was turned off by a person who did not want to talk to me because I was not important enough. Maurice just wanted to preach to the converted, who already agreed with him.

it's cute and it fits into a little square!!! it's my little baby

reminder that "penis triggers" are transmisogynist nonsense, asserting trans women put our existences behind a content warning because you're repulsed by us, and appropriating words like "trigger" to suggest that if we don't comply with transmisogyny we are somehow being ableist or disrespecting survivors (when many of us are disabled survivors ourselves) is absolutely disgusting
